Summary: Child violence is a global public health problem and can be considered an avoidable cause of death and a risk factor to many mental and social disorders. Since 2009, it became mandatory to report cases of interpersonal and self-inflicted violence against children in the country, generating epidemiological data through the Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN). This study aimed to analyze the reports of violence against individuals under 20 years of age in Brazil and Espírito Santo, since 2010 through 2014, in addition, sought to verify the incidence of notifications in the year 2014 and to describe associated variables. An observational, descriptive and cross - sectional epidemiological study was conducted, whose sample consisted of SINAN data. There was an occurrence of 280,731 cases of violence against children under 20 years of age. In 2014, the estimated incidence was 97.3 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in Brazil and 83.6 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in Espírito Santo. The age group with the highest number of reports was from 15 to 19 years old. The occurrences predominated in females and in white and brown races. The southeastern region was the one with the highest number of occurrences, however, the southern region had the highest incidence of cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2014. The states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná were the ones with the highest Records. The residence was the place WHERE violent occurrences predominated, and the parents or guardians were the main aggressors, especially the mother of the child. A positive outcome was observed in most cases with discharge from the health services, however, there were 3,340 deaths related directly to the violence. It was possible to observe that domestic violence against children and adolescents in Brazil is a current problem, making it necessary, therefore, public policies aimed at preventing this aggravation.
